Torrington resident Sean Dey, 40, has been sentenced to a term of 24 months in prison, followed by 12 months of home confinement and three years of supervised release after admitting to selling illegal weapons. He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of community service.

Between June 2017 and April last year, Dey admitted to manufacturing machine guns, including AK-47-style and AR-style machine guns, suppressors, and other firearms.  U.S. Attorney John Durham said Dey entered into an agreement with Bridgeport resident George Jaiman to sell machine guns, suppressors and firearms to third parties for profit.  Neither Dey nor Jaiman possessed a valid license to deal firearms.

On March 28 last year, Jaiman was found to be in possession of an AK-47 and AR-style machine guns with suppressors and no serial number. On April 3 last year, Dey transferred an AR-style machine gun to a customer for cash.

Durham said Dey was arrested on April 11 last year. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to engage unlawfully in the business of selling firearms, and one count of unlawful possession and transfer of a machine gun. Dey remains released on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to report to prison on March 29.

Jaiman pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a machine gun the following day. He is still awaiting sentencing.
