Katie Putnam, a resident of the Plumtree Heights condominium complex off Maple Avenue, is raising money for Costas and Kirsten Koromilas, who have two small children, ages 5 and 7.
According to a report by patch.com, the weekend fire was fought by the Bethel, Stony Hill, and Danbury fire departments.
No one was injured fighting the blaze, but there was extensive fire, smoke and water damage, making the unit unlivable, according to Putnam’s post on GoFundMe.
Kirsten Koromilas, calling the first responders “super heroes,” thanked them for their efforts.
“My brother is a volunteer firefighter in Charlotte N.C.,” she said, so her family understands “the voluntary sacrifice that these angels and their families make on a daily basis.”
The American Red Cross also has stepped in to help the family, the patch.com report said.
The outpouring of love and support from the community has made the family feel, Koromilas said, like “the luckiest people in the world.”
“Our family is strong and surrounded by so much love that we are going to emerge from this better than ever and ready to pay it forward one million fold,” she added in the post.
So far, the GoFundMe campaign has raised $1,860.
