Salt, Shovels, Generators: Get 'Em While They Last At Danbury's Home Depot

DANBURY, Conn. -- It’s the afternoon before a blizzard and salt is selling quickly at Home Depot in Danbury, according to assistant manager Kimba Jay.

Alicia Pagel of New Milford was stocking up on items for the snow at Home Depot on Federal Road in Danbury, in preparation for the impending blizzard that's expected on Tuesday.

“People are buying about one pallet an hour,” he said Monday.

He is confident, though, that the store won’t sell out. “We have plenty,“ he said.

A powerful nor'easter is expected to drop 18 to 21 inches of snow across the Danbury area, starting late Monday.

Many Home Depot customers are also purchasing roof rakes, Jay said.

“We sold about 20 so far today. Also, a generator is being purchased every hour or two,” he said.

This is the most snow equipment that has sold since Jay started working at the store two years ago, he said.

Alicia Pagel of New Milford, who was putting a pallet of salt into her shopping cart, said, “I also just bought ice melt, batteries and firewood."

She's not worried about the blizzard. “I’ve lived in New England my whole life,” she said.

”My daughters are looking forward to a day off from school tomorrow," she said of the 14-year-old and 5-year-old.

The National Weather Service has posted a Blizzard Warning for all of Fairfield County and projected snowfall totals of 18 inches to 2 feet for the nor'easter headed our way.

The Blizzard Warning extends to the entire metro New York region and all of coastal Connecticut from late Monday until late Tuesday night.
