Flash Flood Watch: Storm Will Bring Heavy Downpours, Up To 2.5 Inches Of Rainfall

A 24-hour storm will bring heavy downpours and up to 2.5 inches of rainfall.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24 for Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange and Fairfield counties.

The storm will arrive along with a brief surge of warmer air. The chance for rain starts at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23 on a mostly cloudy day with a high in the low 40s and wind-chill values between 20 and 30.

Rain will become heavy overnight with up to a half-inch possible by daybreak on Thursday, Jan. 24.

There will be heavy downpours into the afternoon Thursday that could cause ice jams even though the high temperature will climb to the mid  to upper 40s. The storm should wrap up by around 5 p.m. Thursday, with another 1 to  inches of rainfall expected on Thursday, with locally higher amounts.

Colder air will return overnight with a low around 22 degrees.

Friday, Jan. 25 will be sunny with the high temperature around freezing.

A new Arctic blast will be in full force overnight Friday into Saturday, Jan. 26 with the low temperature dropping to around 12 degrees. 

Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high in the mid to upper 20s.

There's a chance for snow on Sunday, Jan. 27 on a cloudy day with a high around 32 degrees.
