O'Neills Tree Care Wins New Canaan Softball Title

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Gabriella Sulpizi had three hits, including a bases-clearing triple, as the O'Neill's Tree Care Juggernaut defeated the New Canaan Firefighters Heat in a mercy-rule shortened game, 20-5, to win the town 12-U Majors Softball championship.Kelly Conheeney, Gillian Kane Dinan, Sarah Street and Mallory Ehlers all had multi-hit games. Giuliana Ponterotto and Alyssa Marotta scored two runs apiece. Solid defense was turned in by catcher Carolyn Kemp, centerfielder Julianne Handy and shortstop Riley Mottolese. Claire Leville made a nice play at second base on a high pop, and Allison Fitpatrick made the catch of the year, snaring a line drive at third base.Allary Landeck had two hits and scored two runs for the Heat, which defeated Joe's Pizza Force in the semifinal. Caroline Knightly, Lauren Sturm and Jillian Augustine had an RBI apiece. Rose Engel, Cassie Kane and Lauren Meyers provided excellent defense, and Rachel Smith and Carey Callahan each had hits for the runners-up.
