New Canaan Synchro Swimming Team Wins At Nationals

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — The Aquianas synchronized swimming team from New Canaan won the 16-17-year-old team title at this year's eSynchro Age Group National Championship in Ohio.

Swimming out of the New Canaan YMCA, the Aguianas brought 48 athletes to the meet, which featured more than 1,000 swimmers from 89 clubs. It was held at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

“Placing first at nationals is a great honor for our team,” head coach Jen Muzyk said. “This is the result of these athletes being extremely dedicated, putting in long hours, and bonding as a team.”

New Canaan's first-place 16-17 age group team included Diya Banerjee, Renee Collett, Kate Dalia, Selena Liu, Emily Roney, Erin Wheeler, Eliza Sturgeon and Rebecca Trinklein, plus alternates Jennifer O’Neill and Molly Flynn.

In solo competition, Roney finished seventh. Collett and Wheeler took sixth in duet, while Flynn and Trinkline placed 10th. In trio, Collett, Roney and Wheeler placed second while Dalia, Sturgeon and Trinklein finished seventh.

In the 13-15 age group, New Canaan finished 10th overall with Alice Chidley, Katie Farrell, Emma Flynn, Camilla Kline, Alexandra Lin, Isabella Montgomery, Teresa Salamone and Hannah Vogel. Alternates were Ophelie Tousignant and Sierra Rojas-Thomas.

The 11-12 team finished seventh overall with Katherine Connolly, Eileen Flynn, Brooke Glatzhofer, Olivia Weiss, Audrey Millar, Emmanuella Tchakmakjian and Eliza Wetmore. Alternates were Katherine Reiter and Rachel Panzanoj. In duet, Chidley and Connolly placed sixth and Glatzhofer and Wetmore placed 10th.  In trio, Chidley, Flynn, and Wetmore placed 10th.
