New Canaan Rower Takes Huge Step Toward Olympics

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan’s Andrew Campbell and teammate William Daly won the men’s lightweight final at the USRowing National Selection Regatta Thursday in Chula Vista, Calif.

Campbell, who rowed for New Canaan crew out of the Norwalk-based Maritime Rowing Club, and Daly have one more hurdle to clear to make the Summer Olympics in London. They need to finish in the top two in the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta, which is scheduled for May in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Campbell and Daly won in 6:27.013, about six seconds ahead of Jon Winter and Austin Meyer. Daly and Campbell went undefeated through the trials, and posted the top time entering the finals.
