NEW CANAAN, Conn. New Canaans girls tennis team will get one final shot at Greenwich. This time, the stakes are the Class L state championship.
Second-seeded New Canaan, which has lost to Greenwich twice this season, meets the Cardinals for the state title Friday at 3 p.m. at Yale. The Rams advanced with a 4-3 win Thursday over No. 3 Glastonbury in the semifinals. Greenwich beat No. 4 Newtown in the semis, 4-3. Greenwich defeated New Canaan by 5-2 margins in their meetings this spring, including the league championship match on May 24.
Winners for New Canaan in Thursday's semis included No. 3 singles Emily Brand, No. 4 singles Kate Howard, No. 1 doubles Kristin Laub and Sam Madnicki and No. 2 doubles Phoebe Wilks and Amanda Merjian.
New Canaan is 20-2 on the season.
