NEW CANAAN, Conn. The New Canaan Cannons baseball team returns to action at 9 a.m. Sunday with a doubleheader against the Westport Cardinals.
The Cannons began their season with wins against the Fairfield Mariners and Stamford Phillies. Players on the Cannons include veterans such as Wally Hurd, Tom Dunnam, Mario Lopez, Rob Jones, Steve and David Benko, Dr. Matt Grossman and former Darien High School star Brian Valentine. Talented newcomers include former St. Lukes and Dickinson College player Peter Ackley, former Brien McMahon and Sacred Heart University player Chris Vartuli and former Monmouth College player Brett Conner. Mike Buswell, John Blaze and Jeff Komaromi also joined the Cannons.
Former Springfield College pitcher Scott Carew returns as pitching staff ace joined by Bob Cote, a former player at the University of Bridgeport. Carew already is 2-0 for the Cannons this season.
