Competitive Edge College Advisors to Hold Forum In New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Competitive Edge College Advisors (CECA), a New Canaan firm, is hosting a panel discussion on college admissions Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It will be held at The Hub. It is in the the former Outback building behind Town Hall on Main Street.

Admissions representatives from Lehigh University and Boston University will join Brent Haney of Competitive Edge College Advisors at the event. 

High school students and their parents are invited to the free event. 

The panel will focus on the following hot topics: Standardized Test Scores: SAT (New), ACT, GPA and the the importance and weighting of the essay in admissions, Relevance of course selection and a balanced curriculum (challenging courses, Honors, AP’s, etc.), will also be discussed along with the benefits of early decision vs. regular decision. The realities of financial aid, merit scholarships and the role of athletics and extra-curricular activities in admissions will also be reviewed. 

Competitive Edge College Advisors was founded in New Canaan in 2013 by Brent Haney, Lee Jones, Doug Richardson and Kevin Rusch. All partners had careers in business prior to entering the education field, including finance, marketing and publishing. While the original focus was on helping student athletes find the right college, today 50 percent of students counseled are non-athletes, and to date, CECA has placed over 200 students in colleges and universities throughout the country .
