NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A lavish French-style New Canaan manor owned by Manhattan heiress Huguette Clark that has remained unused and vacant for decades is highlighted in a recent book about her empty mansions, the Hartford Courant reported.
“Empty Mansions: The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark and the Spending of a Great American Fortune” by Bill Dedman and Paul Clark Newell Jr. is about Clark’s life and her fortune, the report said.
Besides her New Canaan mansion – known as Le Beau Château – Clark’s $300-million estates included a $100 million estate in Santa Barbara, Calif., and a $100 million, 42-room apartment on Fifth Avenue overlooking Central Park.
Clark, whose father W.A. Clark made some of his fortune in copper mining, purchased the nine-bedroom, eight-bathroom Le Beau Château in 1951 as a getaway, the report said. It is currently listed for sale at $15.9 million.
