The incident began around 1:30 a.m., Monday, March 25, when the Milford Police received a 911 report of a large fight taking place in the street on Naugatuck Avenue, said Milford Officer Mike DeVito.

When officers arrived on the scene, which was littered with shoes and torn clothing, they found a man with severe injuries to the lower half of his body, DeVito said. The man was immediately transported to an area hospital for surgery, he added.

Police said the man was allegedly the last person hit by Vincent Lopez, 53, of Milford, following a large fight in front of Alfa's Pizza.

According to DeVito, Lopez was fighting with several people near closing time -- police are still trying to sort out the reason for the fight -- when he walked over to his vehicle and got inside and rolled down the window. Another man walked over to the vehicle to continue arguing when Lopez allegedly began to back-up into a brick wall, dragging the man and injuring him, DeVito said.

He then began to drive away from the scene, allegedly hitting a woman in the process, also injuring her, police said.

A short distance away, he hit the third man and ran over the lower half of his body and leaves the scene, DeVito said.

Police were able to track him down about 40 minutes later and place him under arrest, DeVito added.

Lopez was charged with evading responsibility, unsafe backing, breach of peace and first-degree assault.

The investigation into the incident is currently underway.
