Darien Police say they observed a van pass a stopped school bus on Post Road near the intersection of Saltbox Lane on Monday, March 25 around 7:30 a.m.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as 38-year-old Carlos Bonilla of Stamford, according to police.

A routine check of Bonilla’s information led to the discovery of an active bench warrant from Stamford court for failing to appear for a court date related to a 2013 DUI arrest, police said.

Bonilla was arrested and transported to headquarters. He was charged with second-degree failure to appear and released on a court-set bond of $1,000.

Bonilla is scheduled to return to Stamford court on Thursday, April 4.
