The man and his girlfriend were at the Gun For Hire range in New Jersey in the Passaic County town of Woodland Park on Saturday when "the boyfriend put his gun under his chin and pull the trigger," a ranking law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity told Daily Voice.

The bullet apparently exited the victim's cheek, he said.

The range was closed and the man was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson after the 5 p.m. incident.

He was expected to survive.

The Passaic County Sheriff's Crime Scene Investigation Unit and detectives from the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office joined Woodland Park police at the scene.

Woodland Park police said they will release more information once the investigation is complete and the man's family is notified.
