At around 12:44 a.m. on Monday, an officer on patrol saw a car driving north on New Norwalk Road drive through the red light at the intersection of New Norwalk Road and East Avenue, police said. The officer then saw the car driving on the wrong side of the road and nearly hit a car driving in the opposite direction, according to police.
The car was stopped and while speaking with the driver, 43-year-old William J. Ford, the officer could detect the odor of alcohol coming from his breath, police said. Ford failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. Ford also refused to conduct breath tests to determine his BAC, police said.
Ford was charged with operating under the influence, failure to obey traffic signals and failure to drive right. He had two previous DUI arrests in New York and was require to have an ignition interlock device on his car, which he did not, so he was also charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle without an ignition device. He posted a $750 bond and was given a court date of July 7.
