Police: Pair Identified In Apparent Murder-Suicide

Updated at 7:40 p.m.: NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A married couple were found dead Friday afternoon in an apparent murder-suicide in a condominium in a complex on Park Street in New Canaan, New Canaan police say.

The two were found in a unit at 131 Park St. between Maple and Cherry streets, near the New Canaan Post Office, Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said.

"It's a very said thing," a neighbor said Friday evening.

The man and woman are believed to be in their 40s or 50s, police said. The man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and the woman suffered a wound that was not self-inflicted, police said. Police believe the two people were the only residents of the condo, which is one of four units in the building.

Officers responded to the residence at about 2:40 p.m. after receiving a report of a gunshot being fired, Ogrinc said. At about 7:20 p.m., the bodies were taken out on stretchers and put into in a black van from the state medical examiner's office in Farmington.

Police tape was blocking an entrance in the complex. Several police cars were parked in the complex. Motorists driving by slowed down to look at the scene and ask what was going on.

"I am very shocked to hear the news," said Deepak Suldhal, 39, who also lives in a condo on Park Street.

Keith Griffin, a senior at New Canaan High School, said he heard talk about the shooting while at a dinner for the school soccer team. "It's really sobering," Griffin said. "It's sort of upsetting."

Mike Powell, 18, also a senior and a member of the soccer team, was surprised to hear about the shooting. "I never thought it would happen in a place like this," he said of the shooting.

Both boys called the shooting "unsettling."
