Police Locate Driver, Vehicle In Hit-Run Crash That Killed Woman, 32, In Fairfield

Police have located both the driver and vehicle in a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a woman in Fairfield County over the July 4th weekend.

Marileidy Morel Araujo, 32, of Matamoras, Pennsylvania, was killed in the crash that happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 4 in the Town of Fairfield in the area of 2000 Redding Road.

Surveillance video was located from the area of Redding Road, along with several other locations throughout Fairfield and Easton, which identified the suspect vehicle as a white Dodge Ram pickup truck, Fairfield Police said. 

Investigators had earlier believed, based on witness statements, that the vehicle was a Jeep Wrangler.

The vehicle and operator were located Tuesday evening, July 7, Fairfield Police said.

No further information has been released yet, including where the vehicle was located or the identity of the driver.

The Fairfield Police Department has requested an arrest warrant be issued by Superior Court and said it hopes to release more information on Wednesday, July 8.

"The Fairfield Police Department would like to thank the several hundred individuals who provided potential leads and tips throughout this investigation," the department said in a statement. "The caring nature of our community and the general public is shining bright."
