NEW CANAAN, Conn. — A 54-year-old woman was charged with drunken driving after she swerved widely across a roadway — all while driving in front of a New Canaan police officer, police said.
At 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, an officer on patrol on New Norwalk Road saw a northbound car swerve over the double yellow line into the southbound lanes, then back over to the northbound lane, crossing over the white line and onto the shoulder, police said.
The officer stopped the car on Smith Ridge Road near Strawberry Hill Road and smelled alcohol on the driver, identified as Tracey Hanley Bryggman of Waccabuc, N.Y., police said.
Bryggman failed a standardized field sobriety test and was taken into custody, police said. At police headquarters, she refused to take a blood alcohol content test, police said.
She was charged with failure to drive right and driving under the influence. She was released on $260 bond for a court date of Oct. 18.
