The first incident took place around 11:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, when the woman told an officer that she had been walking on Henry Street when a red vehicle pulled up alongside her and two of its occupants exited, while the driver remained in the vehicle, said Lt. Joe Dinho, of the Norwalk Police.

The victim said the two passengers had guns, one pointed the gun at her and the other hit her in her face with the other gun as they attempted to steal her purse, Dinho said.

The men then stole her money and drove away as she ran to the police station, he added.

Moments later at 11:49 p.m., Norwalk Police received a call from a man at the Mobil gas station located at 219 East Ave., reporting that his vehicle had just been stolen.

Patrol officers quickly arrived and spoke with the vehicle owner who reported that he was inside the gas station when he saw two men enter his vehicle and drive off with it; he had left it running, Dinho said.

Detectives assigned to both incidents developed information that a similar vehicle was used in both incidents and believe they may be connected.

Dinho said the stolen vehicle was recovered in Bridgeport and transported back to Norwalk Police headquarters for examination.

This is an ongoing investigation, and we are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Fitzmaurice at 203-854-3180 or by email at dfitzmaurice@norwalkct.org.
