New Canaan Police: Window Broken On Moving Car

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A 17-year-old New Canaan boy told police he heard the rear passenger side window of his Subaru Forester break as he was driving near Mead Park at about 11 p.m. last Wednesday, police said.

The teen was driving north on Park Street stopped and discovered the window was shattered. He had two passengers in the rear of the vehicle and reported seeing four young men running into the woods near Mead Park, police said.

Police believe a rock was responsible for the damage.

The following items were also reported by the New Canaan Police:

• A pair of construction workers got into an altercation at a work site on Michigan Road last Tuesday and were charged with second-degree breach of peace, police said. Benjamin Nieves, 29, of Willow Street, Norwalk, and James J. Troy, 42, of Catalpa Street, Norwalk, were involved in an argument at about 1:22 p.m. when the disagreement became physical but did not lead to a fight. Both men were released. Nieves will appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Wednesday, and Troy will appear on Thursday.

• Mark G. Strachan, 43, of Hickok Road, was driving erratically on Parade Hill Road at about 12:37 a.m. Sunday, police said. Police pulled him over, and an officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, police said. After conducting a field sobriety test, Strachan was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to carry a driver’s license and failure to drive right. He was released on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear July 26 in Norwalk Superior Court.
