New Canaan Police Investigate Assault on Teen

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan police are investigating an assault on a 16-year-old New Canaan boy on Maple Street.

Police said the boy and some friends were at the Kean’s Korner Mobil station on South Avenue at 10:47 p.m. Saturday when another group of youths, possibly from Stamford, began shouting the boy’s name. Police said the boy and his friends walked south on South Avenue, and at least two boys followed them to Maple Street, where one of the boys punched and kicked the 16-year-old in the face.

Police said the victim called police, but the attacker and the other teen left the scene before officers arrived. Police said the victim suffered swelling to the left side of his face and a nosebleed; he was not hospitalized. Police are still looking into the case.

New Canaan police also reported the following incidents:

A 17-year-old Wilton boy was charged Saturday with second-degree breach of peace at New Canaan High School. Police said the boy, whose name was not released because of his age, had been asked to leave the school, where college testing was taking place. Police said the boy was carrying an electronic cigarette device and was causing a disturbance by shouting obscenities at a test proctor and throwing a pencil at her. The boy was scheduled to appear Sunday in Norwalk Superior Court.

Police are investigating the theft of copper downspouts from a Thayer Drive residence. Police said someone removed seven 10-foot downspouts and a copper gutter from the home sometime between 8:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police said repair work was being done to the home. The downspouts are valued at $805 and the gutter is valued at $195.

Police are investigating how someone managed to charge more than $270 to a 19-year-old New Canaan woman’s debit card. Police said the woman reported Thursday that someone made two purchases with her debit card. One was made to Wal-Mart’s website for $272.15 and the other was made at a Sunoco gas station for one dollar, though that amount may change, since gas stations often charge for the full amount days later. Police said the woman had replaced her debit card with a new one about two weeks ago.
