New Canaan Police Following Leads On Home Invasion

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – At least two men were involved in a home invasion Saturday in which a 50-year-old Ponus Ridge Road resident was tied up as the intruders stole silverware from his home, New Canaan Police said Monday.

Officers were following up on several phone calls made to the department after the break-in, Lt. Vincent DeMaio said.

“We’re working now on trying to follow up on the tips we’ve received,” he said Monday.

At least two men entered the home on Saturday evening, DeMaio said. The men entered through the front door, and it appears that no force was used, he said. It is not known whether the door was unlocked or whether someone picked the lock.

The intruders, dressed in all black, tied up the resident and left once they discovered New Canaan Police officers were on their way, police said. DeMaio said a 911 call reporting the incident came from outside the home, though he did not say who made the call because the case was still under investigation.

“We’re trying to keep (information) close to the chest. We don’t want to put that much out there,” he said, adding that it appears the thieves do not live in New Canaan.

The Ponus Ridge resident did not sustain serious injuries, police said.
