Duo Nabbed Attempting To Use Fake Prescription At Pharmacy In Fairfield County, Police Say

Two Fairfield County men were nabbed allegedly attempting to use a fake prescription at an area pharmacy.

The two men, identified as Elvis Canahui, 22, and Kason Sumpter, 23, both of Norwalk, were arrested on Tuesday, April 6 by Greenwich Police, after police received a call from a pharmacist, said Captain Mark E. Zuccerella.

According to Zuccerella, a pharmacist in the central Greenwich district on Greenwich Ave., contacted the police department to report that Sumpter had attempted to obtain drugs.

Plainclothes officers responded and conducted surveillance. The pharmacist was able to verify the prescription was indeed fake and recognized the criminal activity due to similar incidents in recent months.

The pharmacist then notified the officers when he arrived at the store to pick up the prescription, Zuccerella said.

When confronted by officers, Sumpter violently resisted arrest and fled on foot across a busy sidewalk and street and attempted to enter a waiting vehicle, he added.

Both Sumpter, and the driver, identified as Canahui, were arrested.

Sumpter was charged with: 

  • Conspiracy to possess a controlled substance
  • Criminal attempt at controlled possession
  • Criminal attempt at obtaining a drug by fraud
  • Conspiracy at obtaining a drug by fraud
  • Forgery
  • ID theft
  • Interfering with an officer

He was released after posting a $20,000 bond.

The driver, Canahui was charged with:

  • Conspiracy to possess a controlled substance
  • Criminal attempt at controlled possession
  • Criminal attempt at obtaining a drug by fraud
  • Conspiracy at obtaining a drug by fraud

He was released on a promise to appear ticket.
