NEW CANAAN, Conn. Maxine Lapolla, formerly of New Canaan, died Sept. 2 in Richmond, Va. She was 88.
Lapolla was born June 18, 1924, in Lebanon Junction, Ky., to Mary and John Callahan. She spent her childhood in Louisville, Ky., and attended Nazareth College for a career in nursing.
She moved to New Canaan in 1947 and spent 27 years with the Visiting Nurse Association. She also served as the nurse at South School and Saxe Junior High School and worked part-time at the New Canaan YMCA.
Lapolla retired in 1989 and returned to Richmond shortly after to be with her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, two sisters and her husband of 30 years, Charles Joseph Lapolla Jr. Lapolla is survived by four daughters, Linda Lapolla, Lisa Amsler, Sally Tarzia and Sarah Wells, all formerly of New Canaan; three son-in-laws, Chris Tarzia, Mike Amsler and Dan Pucket; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of Richmond, Va.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
