John J. Vitek Jr., 86, Of Beacon

BEACON, N.Y. -- John J. Vitek Jr., of Beacon, died Nov. 28. He was 86.

She was the son of John and Elizabeth Vitek, born Sept. 3, 1930. 

He attended and graduated from St. Joachim Elementary School in Beacon and St. Patrick’s High School in Newburgh in 1948. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during the Korean War. 

Upon arriving home from the Marine Corps, he went to work for Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corporation, where he was employed for 39 years. On April 18, 1954, in St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls, he married Barbara Mullen from New Hamburg, the only girl he ever loved, who survives at home. 

He is survived by his two sons, Dennis and his wife Yolanda and John and his wife Marcella; grandchildren, Ryan and Brittany Vitek and Michele and Jennifer D’Agostino;  five great-grandchildren, Averie, Katelyn, Ryder, Hayden and Ethan; and brother, Joseph Vitek and his wife Linda. 

He was predeceased by his brother, Stephen Vitek.

The family will receive their friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow St., Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joachim Church, 51 Leonard St., Beacon. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery in Beacon.
