Jacqueline Roper Watt, Formerly Of New Canaan

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. - Jacqueline Roper Watt, formerly of New Canaan and Waretown, N.J., died Friday, Jan. 11, in Fountain Valley, Calif., where she had resided for the past seven years. She was 89.

Watt was born Jacqueline Jean Roper in Wilmington, N.C., Oct. 17, 1923, to John and Fannie Roper. Her family relocated to Dumont, N.J. Upon graduation from Dumont High School she enlisted as a Wave in the United States Navy during World War II and served her country. She was stationed in Washington, D.C.

Watt moved to New Canaan in 1958 where she spent many years. She was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. In 1974 after her husband’s retirement from IBM, they moved to Waretown, N.J. They joined St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where she became a Daughter of the King, sang in the church choir and was a member of the Alter Guild. She owned a shop in New Jersey, “Jacqueline’s Antique Dolls Shoppe and Surgery”, where for many years she bought, sold and repaired antique dolls.

Watt is survived by her children, Deborah (Watt) Garfield (Thomas) of Harvard, Mass., Cheryl (Watt) Linsky (Alan) of Lake Placid, Fla., and Jeffrey C. Watt (Ann) of Newport Beach, Calif.; brothers, Donald Roper of Manahawkin, N.J., and John “Jack” Roper (Helen), of Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Mildred Roper (Mrs. Bernard Roper) of Manahawkin, N.J., seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Philip Creighton Watt; and her brother, Bernard Roper.

A memorial service will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, May 11, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Waretown, N.J., with interment in St. Stephen’s Church garden.
