Born March 23, 1937, in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Edward and Gladys Griffing Howard.
He worked as a technician at IBM in Fishkill until his retirement in 2012. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends from school, especially when visiting Canada. Family was very important to him, and he spent his life supporting the love of his life, his wife, Patricia, and their family.
Howard served in the U.S. Army for several years. On Sunday, April 10, 1960, in Poughkeepsie, he married the former Patricia Quinlan. She predeceased him July 2, 2014.
He is survived by sons, Kevin Howard and his wife Dott, Eric Howard and Mark Howard; daughters, Kim Sutton and her husband Mark, Susan Owen and her companion Michael Sullivan and Cindy Reifenberger; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Lynn Howard; and three brothers, James Howard, William Howard, and Edward Howard.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. A funeral service will be conducted at noon Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Arlene Dawber officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawn Crypt Garden at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
