Domenica Scanzo, 86, Of Fairview

FAIRVIEW, N.J. -- Domenica Scanzo, of Fairview, died Nov. 28. She was 86.

She was born May 15, 1930, in Ceramida, provincia Reggio Calabria, Italy. 

In 1974, she sacrificed the safety of her land and her family and came to this country with her 7-year-old daughter. As a single mom, she strived to give her daughter and herself a better life. She was caregiver to her brother Carmine Maceri, who suffered and died from Alzheimer disease. Before retiring, she worked as a seamstress in West New York, N.J. She also was a member of the International Ladies Garment Worker's Union.

She is survived by her child, Enza Scanzo; husband, Jason Masiero; grandchildren, Anthony and Gianna Scanzo-Masiero; siblings, Imperia Arfuso and her husband Joe, the late Annunziata Maceri and the late Rosina Martino.

There will be a funeral at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the A.K. Macagna Funeral Home, 495 Anderson Ave., Cliffside Park, thence to Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church in Fairview, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at Fairview Mausoleum. The family will receive their friends from 4-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
