Carole Pickering, 78, Former New Canaan Nurse

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Carole Ann Pickering, a former longtime New Canaan resident, died Monday, Sept. 10, in Stratford. She was 78. 

Her children, Cheryl Pickering-Jones and Fred Pickering are the human resources director for the Town of New Canaan and a New Canaan police lieutenant, respectively. 

Born and raised in Danbury, she graduated from Danbury High School in 1951. She went on to study nursing and became a registered nurse in 1954. Pickering worked at Waveny Care Center and Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan. She was also a longtime resident of Murrells Inlet, S.C. 

Pickering is survived by her daughter, Cheryl; her son, Fred; and six grandchildren, Christopher, Carly and Andrew Jones, all of Fairfield, and Shane, Cory and Mason Pickering, all of New Canaan. Her husband, Frederick Pickering, predeceased her three years ago. 

Calling hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan. Burial will be private.
