NEW CANAAN, Conn. A Stamford woman is facing a larceny charge after New Canaan police accused her of trying to steal clothing from a Forest Street store by putting it in her handbag.
Donna Rubin, 62, of Pinewood Road, Stamford, was charged on Sept. 18 with sixth-degree larceny, a misdemeanor. An employee of Athletic Shoe Factory told police about 5:09 p.m., Tuesday, that he saw Rubin place a pair of Ripa sandals into her bag and then zip it up. When the manager confronted her to ask if she could open the bag to verify the sandals were in there, Rubin sold him that they must have fallen into her bag, police said. After checking Rubins bag further, police found an Under Armour tank top, valued at $23, and a Rese zip jacket, valued at $116, at the bottom. Rubin claimed that the items belonged to her and she had worn them already, but they were unaccounted for after the store took inventory of its items, police said.
Rubin is scheduled to appear Thursday in Norwalk Superior Court.
