The estranged husband of New Canaan missing mother of five Jennifer Farber Dulos says he had dinner with her just two days before her disappearance in an interview with NBC News 4 New York's Sarah Wallace.

Fotis Dulos said he had an improved relationship with Jennifer Dulos before she disappeared without a trace on Friday, May 24.

"The interesting thing was the last month, I tried many times to make an opening and start communicating with her directly, and that didn't go anywhere in the past," Fotis Dulos told Wallace. "But about mid-April, she responded, and we started talking directly.

"We started talking about possibly going into mediation, she recognized that she was taken by her lawyers, and the dynamic started changing. We started having good communications, good conversations. We made a rule that if we got onto a subject that we didn’t agree, we would park it so we don’t make it antagonistic."

Fotis then claimed that he and Jennifer had been "cordial" with each other and that she had invited him to stay for dinner with the children on the back patio of her home on Wednesday, May 22 before she disappeared.

That was one of the reason's his attorney Norm Pattis cited as to why his DNA would have been in her kitchen sink mixed with her blood that was found during a search by police.

Currently, the couple's five children are staying with Jennifer Dulos' mother and a nanny in Manhattan, out of the eye of the media storm surrounding their mother's disappearance.

Fotis Dulos, who is out of jail on $500,000, was arrested on June 1, along with his girlfriend Michelle Troconis, on the charges of with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and hindering prosecution, after a cell phone track allowed investigators to link the signal to video surveillance that showed Fotis Dulos making at least 30 stops to dump garbage bags in dumpsters and garbage cans in Hartford.

Inside those bags were items that contained the blood of Jennifer Dulos, said police. Dulos did not speak to WNBC about evidence prosecutors have against him on the advice of his legal team.

"My children are the center of my world," Fotis Dulos said in a statement following his TV interview. "I worry about them and Jennifer, and I would tell them that I know it is hard now but everything is going to be alright eventually.

"I understand the public’s perception of me as a monster given the little they know about the case, but I trust the system and the process and ask the public to do the same."

In recent days, Dulos' sister, Rena Dulos, has also come to his defense, saying Fotis Dulos was “not the person who they say he is," reported the Hartford Courant.

In a statement to the press, Rena Dulos said her brother was also loving to her two daughters and that he always wanted to be a father.

But Fotis Dulos said he is one right now having a "hard time" without his children and his girlfriend and having trouble with his business.

"Please keep my children and Jennifer in your thoughts," he said.

Meanwhile, New Canaan Police, along with Connecticut State Police, continue their massive search for the missing woman. They are also wading through more than 1,000 tips that have come in since she disappeared.

New Canaan Police asks that anyone with information regarding the disappearance of Jennifer Dulos to call 203-594-3544. Tips and information can also be provided on a dedicated website at As the, and an email address,
