NEW CANAAN, Conn. – High winds from Hurricane Sandy have felled trees and wires in New Canaan, forcing several roads to close on Monday.
According to New Canaan’s Office of Emergency Management, the following roads are closed due to downed trees or power lines: - Old Stamford Road at Lapham Road - A portion of Beech Road - Valley Road - New Norwalk Road at Lakeview Avenue - Garibaldi Lane - Marshall Ridge Road - Smith Ridge Road
New Canaan officials enacted a curfew at noon, ordering residents to stay home except in cases of emergency.
As of 2:50 p.m., Monday, 115 Connecticut Light and Power customers in town are withouit power. Officials from the state and the utility are expecting outages to increase as Sandy comes closer to shore. Most stores in New Canaan are closed because of the storm conditions.
