New Canaan Police Stop 89 Drivers in Safety Push

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Eighty-nine drivers were pulled over Wednesday by New Canaan Police officers in a crackdown on motorists who talk on their phones while behind the wheel or who drive too fast.

Capt. Leon Krolikowski said the stops were made between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. by officers in marked and unmarked cars. They targeted drivers who were speeding, using cellphones while driving, following other vehicles too closely and violating laws that contribute to accidents.

Officers focused on New Norwalk Road, Smith Ridge Road, South Avenue, Oeonke Ridge Road, Old Stamford Road and Jelliff Mill Road. Those roads, Krolikowski said, have had increased accidents rates or are roads for which the department has received complaints about traffic safety.
