New Canaan Police Looking Into Jewelry Thefts

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A Michigan Road burglary in which more than $13,000 in cash, jewelry and table settings was taken is under investigation by New Canaan police.

Police said it appears the home was entered between 8:30 and 11 p.m. Friday. The residents went to their bedroom just after 11 p.m. after watching television in another section of the house when they noticed signs that someone has been in the room, including opened drawers and closets, police said.

Several pieces of jewelry worth about $8,000, including gold and diamond earrings, a wedding band and an engagement band, were missing, police said. Also taken were $500 in cash and $5,000 in sterling silver flatware. Police said a neighbor saw a couple of vehicles parked in the home’s driveway before 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

A door in the rear of the house was forced open, police said. Police were not sure whether the home had an alarm system.
