NEW CANAAN, Conn. A New Canaan Daily Voice reader recently told us she was upset to hear that two trees on Forest Street are set to be cut down.
The New Canaan Daily Voice looked into it by contacting Tree Warden Bruce Pauley, who told us the Bradford pear trees will come down because property owner Bill Griffin, who planted the trees several years ago, worried about possible damage to his building. The trees could be removed sometime in late July, he said.
They have the potential to cause damage and the property owner wants them out because of the problems theyve created with his building, Pauley said.
Resident Sondra Banford asked The New Canaan Daily Voice last week why the trees were going to be removed, worried that Forest Street may no longer live up to its name with fewer trees there.
Pauley said no one has officially opposed the proposed cutting. We only heard from one person and it was more lament than indignant, he said.
