Meetings To Be Held On New Canaan Town Hall Fix

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Town residents will get to have their say on the renovation of New Canaan Town Hall before any construction takes place, First Selectman Robert Mallozzi III said Tuesday.

Townwide meetings on the renovation project will be held after various groups meet with KSQ Architects, Mallozzi said, and after discussions with the Town Hall Building Committee. The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday to officially hire KSQ, of White Plains, N.Y., as the project manager.

Mallozzi said KSQ will present two or three options at a public forum of what Town Hall may look like after the overhaul, and town officials will make decisions after town leaders and the public are heard.

“I don’t imagine these large meetings taking place for a few months,” Mallozzi said.

A venue for the townwide meetings has not been chosen yet. With Town Hall expected to be unavailable next year, the meetings could be held at the New Canaan Library or at one of the New Canaan public schools.

Town officials began the process to renovate the town’s main building earlier this year. Several town departments have been relocated to an office complex at Walter Stewart’s Market on Elm Street and the New Canaan Police Department building on South Avenue. The town clerk’s office will vacate Town Hall after Election Day and will be the last department to leave the 103-year-old building.
