Monday, May 7

New Canaan Zoning Board of Appeals meeting:  7:30 p.m. The Zoning Board of Appeals will have its regular meeting. New Canaan Town Hall, 77 Main St.

New Canaan Board of Education meeting: 7:30 p.m. The Board of Education will have its regular meeting. The board will discuss the redistricting of elementary schools to ease overcrowding, among other topics. New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Road.

Tuesday, May 8

New Canaan Board of Selectmen: 9 a.m. The Board of Selectmen will have its regular meeting. New Canaan Town Hall, 77 Main St.

New Canaan Board of Finance: 7:30 p.m. The Board of Finance will have its regular meeting. The board is expected to approve the mill rate for the 2012-13 fiscal year. New Canaan Town Hall, 77 Main St.

New Canaan High School girls lacrosse: 5 p.m. The Rams will play host to Greenwich High School at Dunning Stadium. New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Road.

Wednesday, May 9

New Canaan Library World Events, History and Culture Book Group: 7:30 p.m. The group will be discussing "Civilization: The West and the Rest" by Niall Ferguson in the Plaut Conference Room. The discussion, free and open to the public, will be led by Ken Hecht. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St. 

Thursday, May 10

Local author David Park at New Canaan Library: 7:30 p.m. David Park will discuss his new book, "Kayaking in and Around the Norwalk Islands," in the Adrian Lamb Room. Hear all the details and ask questions about kayaking in the area between Darien and Westport, including local rivers, coastline and islands off-shore. Information on kayak safety and island-nesting birds will also be provided. An 18-foot sea-kayak and gear will be on display, courtesy of the Outdoor Sports Center of Wilton. Signed copies of the book will be available for $10. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St. 

Friday, May 11

Sign & Sing at New Canaan Library: 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Sign & Sing will be presented by Jodie Jensen for babies and toddlers ages 6 to 36 months. Research has found that baby sign language increases communication, boosts intelligence and reduces tantrums. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.
