More than 200 volunteers gathered on “Main Street” at The Village in celebration and recognition of their service to Waveny throughout the year.

“The gifts of time and talent you give so freely enrich the lives of everyone we serve,” said Rebecca Albrecht, director of human resources for Waveny. “Thank you for being a part of Waveny’s past, present and future.”

Waveny is a not-for-profit organization that offers independent living at The Inn, assisted living for people with Alzheimer’s and memory loss at The Village and skilled nursing at Waveny Care Center.

Nearly 80 active Waveny volunteers were recognized for service-hour milestones ranging from 50 to 5,700 hours. In addition to recognizing hours of service, 13 loyal volunteers received awards commemorating their anniversaries of 5, 10, 20, 25 and 30 years of service at Waveny.

Specially recognized for their volunteer service in beautifying Waveny were the New Canaan Garden Club, the Beautification League, The Gardeners, the Philanthropic Educational Organization, the Tuesday Ladies, New Canaan Florist and the Stamford Garden Club.

“Forty-one years ago, some of you here tonight began a personal journey volunteering with Waveny that continues to this day,” said Debbie Perron, Waveny’s director of volunteers. “Our strength comes from our shared mission to champion quality of life for all whom we serve.”

Following additional words of thanks from Todd Lampert, chairman of the board, and Bill Piper, CEO, awards were presented to volunteers for their outstanding service-hour milestones. Click here to view the full list of volunteers honored.

More than 500 individual volunteers collectively contribute approximately 15,000 hours of service to Waveny annually, with more than 200 new volunteers joining Waveny each year.

The event marked the mid-point of a weeklong celebration in honor of National Volunteer Appreciation Week, which was themed “Volunteers: Giving Time, Touching Hearts.”
