Also running weekly with "Cinderella" are "Wizard of Oz" and "Charlotte's Web." "Legally Blonde, The Musical" is based on the film starring actress Reese Witherspoon.

"'Legally Blonde' is just the prescription for this summer," remarks Melody Meitrott Libonati, the theatre's artistic director. "After the highly successful run of 'Hairspray' last summer, we will keep the energy turned up high and flowing with this exciting musical about female empowerment."

The theatre company auditioned over 700 actors from NYC and CT to assemble a highly talented professional cast. The show began performances on June 24 and will continue through Aug. 9, with shows Thursday through Saturday nights at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 4 p.m.

The theatre for a young audience program features "Cinderella, A Fairy's Tale," a new musical adaptation of the classic Cinderella fairy tale as told by the fairy godmother.

"Children are more sophisticated at a younger age and need characters, music and a story line more in tune with today's culture" explained Libonati, who also authored the adaptation and co-wrote the lyrics with the composer David Hancock Turner.

Cinderella premieres Friday, July 3 and will run in rotation on weekends with the the "Wizard of Oz" and "Charlotte's Web," through Aug. 9.

"Charlotte's Web" features a cast of five actors who play multiple roles; includes puppetry; and uses unique custom designed masks by Jeff Semmerling, one of America's leading mask makers, based in Chicago. "Charlotte's Web" opened the TYA series on June 13.

The Summer Theatre of New Canaan presents shows in Waveny Park. A limited number of stage side tables and tables for two are available for booking small parties and dining prior or during the shows. Parking is adjacent to theatre at Dunning Field.
