New Canaan YMCA Releases Schedule Of Fall Events, Programs

NEW CANNAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan Y has released its schedule for fall classes and programs. Here's a look at some of the offerings for the fall season.

Schools are closed Thursday, Sept. 5, for Rosh Hashanah. Children are invited to spend their day off at the Y's Vacation Camp. There will be a magician on hand as well as scheduled play time in the gym and arts and crafts. Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Vacation camp is $65 for Kids Unlimited Students, $70 for members and $80 for nonmembers.

Registration for the 2013-14 Y Guide & Princess program is now available. YG&P is a father/daughter and father/son program for families with kids in kindergarten through fourth grade. Activities such as crafts, hiking, outings, stories, games, and hobbies help to instill stronger family relationships.

The YG&P kick off event is set for Thursday, Sept. 12,  from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The Whirlwind Diving team are holding evaluations for any new divers interested in learning the sport.

Registration is currently available for our fall lifeguard certification class. Class is held on Tuesday evenings for 8 weeks and begins Sept. 17. Participants must be 15 or older.

The Girls on the Run program is a life-changing, experiential learning program for girls combining training for a 3.1-mile run event, with self-esteem enhancing and uplifting workouts.

The new Curious Cubs Bouncing Bears/Art & Science Combo Class is a fitness/enrichment based, educational preschool program will tap into your child's physical and creative side by combining 45 minutes of gymnastics with 45 minutes of hands-on learning in a classroom setting. Classes take place on Thursdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

The Y will be hosting our Annual Ambassador Luncheon on Saturday, Sept. 28. This is a special occasion for those members with 25 years at the New Canaan YMCA.
