New Canaan Accountant Ad Tomaselli Dies at 86

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Adolfo "Ad" Joseph Tomaselli of New Canaan died May 5 at home, surrounded by family. He was 86. 

Tomaselli ran an accounting practice in New Canaan for over 60 years. 

Born Oct. 29, 1925, in Stamford, Tomaselli moved to New Canaan at a young age. He was the son of Carmelo and Grazia Maria Pugliese Tomaselli. A 1943 graduate of New Canaan High School, Tomaselli was a World War II veteran, having served on the USS Chase in the European, Mediterranean and Pacific Theaters. 

His ship was stationed off the shore of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and was hit and disabled by a kamikaze off Okinawa in 1945. After his discharge in April of 1946, Tomaselli graduated from Merrill Business School. He began his accounting career as office manager of various automobile agencies before establishing his own accounting practice. 

He was admitted into the New Canaan Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a past president of the New Canaan Rotary Club and co-founder of the New Canaan Rotary Lobster Fest. 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Collins Tomaselli; three daughters, Linda Sue Tomaselli (Christian) Dorflinger, of Franklin, Mass., Anita Louise Tomaselli (Bob) Satti, of Milford, Conn., and Kathryn Collins Tomaselli (Adam) Walker, of Fairfax, Va; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph F. Tomaselli and Lawrence F. Tomaselli. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan. Burial with full military honors will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan.
