Letter: Waveny Care Lauds Staff's Work During Storm

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — The New Canaan Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters from its readers. Email letters to mmason@dailyvoice.com. The following letter is from Michael R. Bird, interim chief operating officer and chief financial officer of the Waveny Care Network, and Elyse O. Dent and Ann E. Callahan, the organization's administrators.

On behalf of our board of directors, management team, and the patients, residents and clients whom we serve, we wish to extend our deepest thanks to Waveny Care Network’s entire staff for their dedication and tireless work throughout the recent hurricane and following days.

Despite severe weather conditions, rampant household power outages and looming uncertainty surrounding personal circumstances, our staff not only reported for duty, but went above and beyond. Many of them stayed over at Waveny for multiple days to assist with ongoing shift work and patient and resident needs. Cross departmental assistance was readily volunteered, greatly appreciated, and allowed us to continue to meet the needs and exceed the expectations of all whom we serve.

Thanks to their unfailing spirit of teamwork and determination to help assist the community, our staff at Waveny Care Center, The Village and New Canaan Inn all helped to accommodate numerous visitors and overnight guests in emergency situations, while our adult day program, care managers and home healthcare professionals continued to provide invaluable support for caregivers throughout the community.

In the wake of Sandy, we thank our staff profusely and sincerely. Thank you for all you have done and all that you continue to do. We are so very fortunate to be able to count on each and every one of you.
