Twice Is Nice: Trumbull Man Buys Two $20K Scratch Lottery Tickets, Walks Away With $40K

It's not every day that a lottery player gets to experience the thrill of winning a scratch game's top prize, not once, but twice.

Jim Zygmont of Trumbull won the lottery twice in one day.

That's what happened when Jim Zygmont of Trumbull, purchased two "20X Cash 4th Edition" scratch tickets and won the game's top prize — twice on the same day, at the same location, and walked away with $40,000, said the Connecticut Lottery.

"I bought the first '20X' ticket over the counter at 4:56 pm and won $20,000. I almost fell backward. It was crazy," said Zygmont, who had the moment documented in a photo taken from the lottery retailer's security camera. "Not even five minutes later, the retailer pointed out the Lottery's new vending machine and said he should give it a try.

Zygmont figured why not, and turned around and purchased three more "20X Cash" tickets from the machine. When he scanned the second ticket, he was stunned to have won a second time.

I couldn't believe it, he said.

Zygmont, a computer consultant, said that "20X Cash" is his "lucky" scratch game.

"It's always a consistent winner for me, love to see the 'X'" said Zygmont, referring to the game's prize multiplier.

By revealing a "multiplier," the player instantly wins the prize for that row times the multiplier shown for that row, lottery officials said.

For selling Zygmont his two top prize winning tickets, Crossroads Card & Gift, at 280 Connecticut Ave., in Norwalk, will receive a $400 bonus.
