The magazine anointed 11 small towns from across the United States as ones it expects to be “huge” this year.

Rhinebeck came in at No. 8.

The historic, yet sophisticated, town is nestled by the Hudson River and has views of the magnificent Catskill Mountains.

It is known for its tree-lined streets, shops, restaurants, art galleries, and cultural venues such as Upstate Films, a downtown theater that that has been showing indie, foreign, and classic films since the 1970’s.

House Beautiful is part of the Hearst Corporation’s stable of magazines, as is Country Living, which hosts its own event within an event at the Dutchess County Fair each year.

So it is not surprising that House Beautiful cites the Country Living Magazine Fair as one of the reasons Rhinebeck is growing in popularity.

With a promise of bringing the mag’s “pages to life,” the mini-fair features vendors selling vintage and hand-crafted wares, as well as celeb speakers and craft and cooking demonstrations.

The Dutchess County Fair itself was launched in 1845 as an agricultural event where farmers could show off their crops and livestock. Said to be the second largest county fair in New York state, it draws half a million visitors each year.

House Beautiful also took note of the Beekman Arms, a charming inn that claims to be America’s oldest continuously operating hotel.

Also on the list was Pawhuska, Okla.; Laurel, Miss.; Greenville, S.C.; Tishomingo, Okla.; Earlham, Iowa; Leiper’s Fork, Tenn.; Washington Depot, Conn.; Eureka Springs, Ark.; Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif.; and Charlottesville, Va.
