Stephane Smarth, 40, was arrested this week after police said he was caught on camera soliciting sex from a sex worker at the Stamford Suites Hotel. Officers were investigating a potential human trafficking operation when they encountered Smarth, Stamford police said.

Police said he was filmed twice entering a hotel room used by sex workers.

He was charged with two counts of soliciting a sex act, authorities said.

This is not Smarth’s first run-in with the law.

In January, he was arrested in New Canaan after allegedly flashing his Stamford police badge during a traffic stop, despite having already been fired, police said.

He was previously charged with impersonating a police officer, authorities said.
