What's Happening This Weekend in New Canaan

What’s Happening in New Canaan This Weekend??

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — An annual book sale, an art-materials sale and music paired with film are some of the events planned for this weekend in New Canaan.

Friends of the New Canaan Library John Randolph Book Sale: Starting at 10 a.m. The annual book sale will feature thousands of used books at reduced prices. Sunday sales will by 50 percent off, and books are available for $5 a bag from 9 a.m. to noon Monday.

Silvermine School of Art Materials and Equipment Tag Sale Fundraiser: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An assortment of great treasures can be found at this tag sale, including stretcher bars, paints, a wide variety of frames, cameras, enlargers, ceramics supplies, painting and drawing materials, photography, printmaking, jewelry and sculpture supplies and equipment, and, of course, art books. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Silvermine Scholarship Fund for Children.

Hot Club of San Francisco Presents Cinema Vivant, 4 p.m., Silvermine Arts Center: Coming to Silvermine straight from their engagement at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Hot Club of San Francisco, an ensemble of accomplished and versatile musicians celebrating the timeless music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, will present Cinema Vivant. Reviving this lost entertainment of 1930s Europe, the group pairs music with film, scoring early silent shorts with live music. Come see the extraordinary work of an early 1900s Russian pioneer of stop-motion animation. Often called gypsy jazz, the music of the Hot Club of San Francisco has entranced audiences around the globe for more than 20 years. Tickets are $15 for Silvermine members and $20 for nonmembers.
