What To Do In New Canaan This Weekend

NEW CANAAN, Conn. –High school football, the New Canaan Nature Center’s big fall extravaganza and a reception for art at the library are some of the events planned for this weekend in around New Canaan. 

Friday

New Canaan High School Football: 7 p.m.  The New Canaan High School Rams will host the Norwalk High School Bears at Dunning Stadium. New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Road.

New Canaan High School Field Hockey: 4 p.m. The New Canaan High School Rams will host the Wilton High School Warriors at Dunning Stadium. New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Road.

Children’s Author/Illustrator Grace Lin At New Canaan Library: 4 p.m.  Grace Lin, author and illustrator of more than 14 picture books, will visit the New Canaan Library’s Curtis Gallery. She will talk about her new book Starry River of the Sky (2012), the sequel to Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.

Saturday

New Canaan Nature Center Fall Fair:  10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Visit the Nature Center for all types of fall fun, including pony rides, a hay maze, a haunted trail, live music from Remember September, apple sling shots, bungee jumping, pumpkin decorating, bounce houses, face painting and tattoos and more. Visitors can also take part in the fifth annual pie eating contest. New Canaan Nature Center, 144 Oenoke Ridge.  

New Canaan Farmers Market: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit with vendors selling farm fresh foods, soaps, crafts and other treats at the Center School Parking Lot on the corner of Maple and Main streets. The Farmers Market is open every Saturday rain or shine through Nov. 17. Center School Parking Lot.

Sunday

Art Exhibit Featuring Geraldine Marcenyac and Patrick Kennedy at New Canaan Library: 3 p.m. The second annual Stoddard Art Lecture takes place immediately following a reception for this new exhibit of sculpture, photographs and encaustic paintings.  The reception begins at 3 p.m. and the lecture at 5 p.m. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.
