What To Do In New Canaan This Weekend

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – High school football, a fall festival with beer and food and a manga club gathering are some of the events planned for this weekend in and around New Canaan.

Friday, Sept. 28

New Canaan High School Field Hockey: 4 p.m. The New Canaan High School field hockey team hosts the Stamford High School Black Knights at Dunning Stadium. New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Road.

“Head too Head” Exhibit at Silvermine Arts Center:  Noon to 5 p.m. Susan Halls' exhibit fills the gallery with ceramic faces that penetrate the space and force viewers to confront each piece as if they were looking at a criminal lineup. The observer becomes the observed, the faces invite and repel, and hopefully, disturb. No sculpture is larger than a hand, and the intimate scale draws the viewer in close. Soft clay that has been pushed, pulled and pinched becomes an ambiguous hybrid creature reminiscent of an ape, bird, goat and dog. Occasionally, man-like images emerge, connections from our primitive past. Silvermine Arts Center, 1037 Silvermine Road.

Saturday, Sept. 29

New Canaan Nature Center Fall Festival: 3 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Sample a variety of craft beers, delicious bites from local chefs and live music at the Nature Center’s 40-acre outdoor sanctuary. Music will be provided by The Fry Daddys and Otis & The Hurricanes. Guests must be 21 or older with a valid ID. No minors will be allowed in the festival. Tickets are $50 per person. New Canaan High School Football: 10:30 a.m. The New Canaan Rams travel to Fairfield Warde High School to take on the Mustangs. 755 Melville Ave., Fairfield.
