Monday, Oct. 1

New Canaan Library Movie Mondays: 4 p.m. Join the New Canaan Library for Movie Mondays. This week’s movie is “Shutter Island.” Plaut Room, New Canaan Library. 151 Main St.

New Canaan Town Council Special Meeting: 6:30 p.m. The town council will have a special meeting. Among the items on the agenda are a proclamation in honor of past Council Chairman William Bach and a vote of a transfer of funds to pay for a new fire pumper truck and repairs to the parking lot at East School. New Canaan Utilities Commission Meeting: 7:30 p.m. The utilities commission will have a regular meeting. New Canaan Town Hall, 77 Main St.

New Canaan Board of Selectmen Meeting: 9 a.m. The board of selectmen will have its regular meeting. New Canaan Town Hall, 77 Main St.

New Canaan Library PowerPoint 2007 Computer Class: 9:30 a.m. PowerPoint gives you everything you need to produce a professional-looking presentation. This class teaches what PowerPoint has to offer: word processing, outlining, drawing, graphing and presentation management tools. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.

Author Lee Woodruff at New Canaan Library: 7 p.m. New York Times best-selling author Lee Woodruff will introduce her first fictional work, "Those We Love the Most."  Woodruff also wrote "In an Instant," her inspirational account of her husband's Bob Woodruff traumatic brain injury suffered during an explosion in Iraq when he was co-anchor of ABC’s World News Tonight. Time For Twos Fall Storytime at New Canaan Library: 11 a.m. Time for 2s meets in the Children's Program Room. Snack follows at 11:30 a.m. Registration required. New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.

Screenwriting Class at New Canaan Library: 7 p.m. Do you an idea for the next great sitcom? Or the draft of a script for a Hollywood blockbuster saved on your computer? Professional screenplay and television writer Gigi New will present “How to Craft a Screenplay” for those who have always dreamed of writing a successful screenplay or are just interested in the process. Gigi outlines the process of turning a storyline, idea or piece of writing into a viable, marketable screenplay. Lamb Room, New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.

Friday, Sept. 5

New Canaan High School Football: 7 p.m. The New Canaan High School football team will host the Brien McMahon High School Senators. Dunning Stadium, New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Road.
