Wolcott police were called to 634 Bound Line Road around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, to reports of a shooting.

Police arrived to find the bodies of Michelle Cote, 55, of Colchester, her estranged husband, David Cote, 59, from Wolcott, and their 34-year-old son, David Cote Jr., of Colchester.

Police say Michelle, her son, and one of his friends were helping David move out of his home when an argument broke out between the estranged parents, police said. They had been separated for a year.

Their son and his friend were outside when they heard a fight and ran to break it up. They arrived to find David Cote Sr. pointing a gun at Michelle.

The son  stepped in to protect his mother, and at some point, David Cote shot him and his wife, killing them both, Wolcott police said. The son's friend, who is licensed to carry a weapon, shot David Cote, who died of his wounds.

The friend called 911 and waited for police to arrive, authorities said.
